Orsino's love and attraction is so strong towards Olivia because he thinks that she is beautiful and sweet. I.i.17-22
ReplyDeleteOlivia does not love Orsino because he acts rather obnoxious, such as in the beginning of the play when he says.. "if music be the food of love play on." He seems spoiled and has a very unappelaing personality.
ReplyDeleteViola disguises herself as a eunuch for protection.
2. Viola wants to disguise herself as a eunuch so that she can work for Duke Orsino. She just lost her brother and her sense of protection and feels very vulnerable. She knows if she disguises herself as a man and works for the duke she will have protection and a job. (I.ii.50-64)
ReplyDelete#4. Viola cannot reveal her true affections for Orsino because she is pretending to be a male eunuch, Osorio. Therefore, because of her disguise, she must keep her love for Orsino to herself.
ReplyDelete5. it is possible that malvolio is in love with Olivia; most of the men are in love with her- but because malvolio is so close to her (her "right-hand man") with the house and all, he could have fell in love with her. It would be awkward for him to admit that though because he is not at the same level as her; economically, financially, etc.
ReplyDeleteorsino loves olivia because the thought of her: she's wanted by many, she's beautiful, she's rich. she's the "perfect" woman any man would one, or so it would seem
ReplyDelete1.Orsino only loves Olivia because she is the "perfect woman"
ReplyDelete2.Viola thinks that it will give her protection
3.Olivia thinks that Orsino is obnoxious
4.When they meet she is disguised as a man
5.Yes he is
6.They didnt tell us so far why or how her brother died
Olivia is not enamored with Orsino because to her he is simply another hopeless suitor mesmerized by her beauty. Olivia is sick of all of the repulsive and obnoxious men who profess their love to her. Andrew is barley sober, Orsino whines about unreciprocated love, and Malvolio acts dim witted. He is very gullible, believing Olivia would command him to act in an absurd fashion in the name of love. Orsino does not act in a fashion that shows he truly cares for Olivia, only praises her beauty.
